Live Pigeon Traps

This page is still under construction, but I will have a few photos of some of the early live pigeon traps. While I would like to try to find a few examples of the earlier patented live pigeon traps, my main interest lies in the glass ball and clay pigeon traps.

Originally live pigeon traps were either boxes semi-buried in the ground, or boxes mounted on posts. The overall design of the above pigeon trap is pretty consistent with many of the traps I've seen, though this example is one of the most highly decorated examples I've seen.

There were several different patented designs for live pigeon traps as well. Typically they tried to incorporate some way in which to force the pigeon to take off upon opening.
