Clay Pigeon Traps

By the mid 1880's a new target began to overthrow the glass target balls. The biggest problem with the glass balls was the fact that it left pieces of broken glass littering the fields. A few innovations that attempted to solve this problem included charcoal balls and even target balls consisting of packed fertilizers. However, in 1880 George Ligowsky patented the flying disk that would eventually become the target in use today. What made Ligowsky a brilliant businessman was the fact that he took advantage of one of the most followed shooting events of the time; the shooting competition between Captain Bogardus and Doc Carver.
